Hi, I'm Jake and this is Forest City Hifi. This concept came to life after nearly two decades of on-and-off work in live sound, DIY and studio recording while I accumulated and curated an ever-growing collection of microphones and equipment.

I love the whole process of recording music from start to finish, and the journey to bring someone else’s vision to life. While I spend my work days in a less-creative field, I’m pursuing this project to work collaboratively with musicians and create unique art that I’m truly passionate about.

A Collaborative Approach

  • Getting to know you
    • I want to hear about both who you are and who you want to be as an artist. Understanding your unique perspective and history will allow me to translate your vision into a reality.
    • Beyond just getting together to talk about your ideas, I’d love to see you perform live and listen to any existing music you might have, even the roughest of demos are great! Sharing music you’re inspired by as well can help guide the process and give me a better idea of what direction you’d like to take for your sound.
  • Setting the Scene
    • The world is our recording studio! The only prerequisite is that it should be an inspiring—and mostly quiet—place. Whether a dance hall or defunct highway tunnel, indoors or out, I love tackling the challenge of recording in non-traditional spaces and capturing a sound that brings the environment to life for the artist and listener.
  • Embracing Creativity
    • We’ll make a lot of decisions about your music during pre-production, but I view these less as strict rules to abide by and more rough guidelines to keep us on track. I always want to leave room for experimentation and exploration from your initial idea all the way through mastering.
